NEW YORK (January 5, 2023) — Patrick Novecosky was a guest on three Newsmax TV programs, plus a guest commentator during Newsmax’s live coverage of Pope Benedict XVI’s funeral Mass Thursday morning. Fox News published his opinion piece — Pope Benedict XVI and Pope John Paul II: Catholicism’s dynamic duo — on the eve of Benedict’s funeral.

On Sunday, Jan. 1, Patrick joined Alex Kraemer and Carl Higbie on Newsmax’s Wake Up America Weekend about the death and Legacy of Pope Benedict XVI. Higbie led with an odd question about Benedict’s impact on foreign policy. Kraemer asked about Benedict’s lasting legacy. Watch here.

Patrick returned on Monday to talk to Newsmax host Jenn Pellegrino on Prime News about Benedict’s passing and his relationship with Pope St. John Paul II. They discussed the Karol Wojtyla/Josef Ratzinger collaboration from their first meeting in 1978 to John Paul II’s death in 2005. Patrick noted that even before his papal election, Ratzinger was proactive in combatting clergy sex abuse. Watch here.

On Tuesday, Patrick talked to Emma Rechenberg on Newsmax’s National Report about Benedict XVI, his legacy, and his upcoming funeral Mass. She asked Patrick about his reporting on Benedict during his visit to Washington, DC, in 2008 and Jordan in 2009. They also discussed Benedict’s friendship and collaboration with John Paul and Benedict’s upcoming funeral. Watch here.

Patrick joined Newsmax host Tom Basile for live coverage of Benedict’s funeral at 2 a.m. ET on Thursday. Other commentators during the Mass included Fr. Gerald Murray, Edward Pentin, and Newsmax’s Rome correspondent, Alex Salvi.

Fox News published Patrick’s opinion piece — Pope Benedict XVI and Pope John Paul II: Catholicism’s dynamic duo — on Wednesday. In the article, Patrick wrote about how the collaboration between John Paul and Ratzinger/Benedict was unparalleled in the history of the Catholic Church.

“They became Catholicism’s dynamic duo,” Patrick wrote. “It was almost like Ratzinger was Robin to John Paul’s Batman. But it was deeper than that. Ratzinger’s input gave John Paul’s writings greater depth and clarity. Ratzinger was John Paul’s sounding board for many of his initiatives — from the launching of World Youth Day to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, first published in 1992.”
