ANN ARBOR, Michigan (April 1, 2025) —  Patrick Novecosky discussed John Paul the Great’s astounding legacy 20 years after his death today with host Dr. Marcus Peter on Ave Maria Radio’s Ave Maria in the Afternoon.

Peter asked Novecosky about John Paul II’s spiritual and political influence during his 26-year papacy. Novecosky noted that the pope’s first visit to Poland in 1979 was a game-changer in world history.

“He went into communist Poland and called down the Holy Spirit,” he said. “It was like a spiritual explosion went off. People were chanting, ‘We want God!’ in a communist nation where they were told for decades that there is no God.”

They went on to discuss John Paul’s friendship with Ronald Reagan, his spiritual legacy, his defense of human dignity, and his devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
